Aftercare

Leave the bandage on: After getting your tattoo, keep the bandage on for at least 2 to 4 hours, as recommended by your tattoo artist. This helps protect the area from bacteria. If your artist has wrapped your tattoo with Saniderm or a similar product, please keep the bandage on for two to three days. Below, you will find tips for wrap use.

  1. Gently clean the tattoo: After removing the bandage, wash your hands thoroughly. Then, gently clean the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented soap. Use your fingertips, not a washcloth.

  2. Pat dry: After cleaning, pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel. Avoid rubbing, as this can irritate the skin.

  3. Apply a thin layer of ointment: Once the tattoo is dry, apply a thin layer of an ointment, such as Aquaphor or a tattoo-specific product, as recommended by your tattoo artist. Use just enough to cover the area without excessive application.

  4. Avoid soaking: For the first two weeks, avoid soaking the tattoo in pools, hot tubs, or baths. Take quick showers instead.

  5. Moisturize regularly: After the first few days, switch to a fragrance-free lotion or moisturizer approved for tattoo care. Apply this 2 to 3 times a day to keep the skin hydrated.

  6. Avoid sun exposure: Keep your tattoo covered from direct sunlight. UV rays can fade the ink and irritate the healing skin.

  7. Do not pick or scratch: As the tattoo heals, it may itch or flake. Avoid picking or scratching the area, as this can lead to infection and affect the quality of the tattoo.

  8. Wear loose clothing: Opt for loose fitting clothes over the tattooed area to prevent friction and irritation during the healing process.

  9. Monitor for signs of infection: Watch for any signs of infection, such as excessive redness, swelling, warmth, or discharge. If any of these symptoms occur, contact your tattoo artist or a healthcare professional.

  10. Continue care for two weeks: Maintain your aftercare routine consistently for at least two weeks, as the healing process can vary from person to person.

  11. Consult your artist for further guidance: Once the initial healing period is over, consult your tattoo artist for any additional care tips specific to your tattoo and skin type.

Wrap Usage

Preparation

  • Ensure your hands are clean. Wash them thoroughly with soap and water before handling the wrap. This helps to prevent any infection.

  1. Apply the Tattoo Wrap

    • If instructed to do so after your tattoo session, gently place the Saniderm or tattoo wrap over the fresh tattoo, ensuring it covers the entire area without any air pockets.

    • Press down around the edges to seal the wrap securely against your skin.

  2. Monitor the Tattoo

    • Keep the wrap on for the recommended duration, usually 3 to 5 days. Do not remove it unless specified by your tattoo artist. It's normal for a small amount of plasma or fluid to collect under the wrap.

  3. Avoid Moisture

    • During the wear period, take care not to expose the wrap to excessive moisture. Showers are generally acceptable; just avoid prolonged soaking or bathing.

  4. Check for Issues

    • If you notice excessive redness, swelling, or discharge, contact your tattoo artist or a healthcare professional for advice.

  5. Removing the Bandage

    • After the recommended time, gather your supplies: clean scissors (if needed) and a gentle cleanser.

    • In a warm shower, allow the area to be exposed to warm water for a few minutes to help loosen the adhesive.

    • Begin at one corner of the wrap and gently pull it away from your skin. If you encounter resistance, add more warm water to ease the removal. Do not rip or tear the wrap off.

    • If necessary, use scissors to trim the bandage away in sections for easier removal.

  6. Clean the Tattoo

    • Once the wrap is off, carefully wash the tattoo with mild, fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water. Use your hands, not a washcloth, to avoid irritation.

  7. Drying

    • Pat the tattoo dry with a clean towel or let it air dry. Avoid rubbing the area.

  8. Apply Aftercare Products

    • After the tattoo is dry, apply a thin layer of a recommended aftercare ointment or lotion, again using clean hands.

  9. Follow Aftercare Instructions

  • Adhere to any additional aftercare instructions provided by your tattoo artist, including how often to apply lotion and when to transition to regular moisturizing.

  1. Observe for Healing

  • Monitor the healing process for any adverse reactions and keep the tattoo clean. Avoid picking or scratching the tattoo as it heals.

  1. Patience

  • Understand that complete healing may take several weeks. During this time, continue to moisturize and protect the tattoo from sunlight and irritation.
